International Women’s Day at Apollo Na Angor

Apoolo Na Angor, or Development of Woman, was founded in 2003 as a self-help group and later becoming a registered national NGO in Bukedea, Eastern Uganda. The guiding philosophy at Apoolo Na Angor is that development is an ongoing process motivating and empowering community members to identify and analyse their needs while planning how best to utilize available resources for the enhancement of their lives. One of the core programs is The Community Continuing Education Program providing education on human rights, gender, domestic violence, land rights and children’s rights. It teaches basic reading, writing and math skills to woman, who were unable to attend school. The program also provides income-generating skills such as the tailoring courses and needle work. Over 90% of the beneficiaries are marginalized rural woman. Some of them are widows with vulnerable children, and many of them are struggling with HIV/AIDS. This reportage was made in 2012 at the celebration of The International Woman’s Day.
